ACETOLIERE

Oil, vinegar and salt set

1980 Design: Achille Castiglioni

1980, 1984 Production: Rossi & Arcandi, Alessi

The two glass cruets are identically shaped but contain different amounts since oil is used up more rapidly than vinegar. This difference also helps avoiding accidentally picking up the wrong cruet. The lids are hinged and counterweighted so when the cruet is tilted, they open. Opening and closing occurs without need of touching the lids and the internal spout collects even the tiniest drop and sends it back into the cruet. The base, the lids and the handles are in silver plated stainless steel, thickened to facilitate grip and bent to strengthen the handles. This couple of “table personalities” was designed to stand at a slight slant to make them seem playful and inviting.
